365 Days of Tea - Day 38: Good Earth's Sweet Chai of Mine.

I know I've recently done a Good Earth tea but I've been drinking today's tea pretty often so I decided to review it. I've had quite a lot of this box so far, and I'll probably finish all of the tea bags. I promise to do more loose leaf soon!

Sweet Chai Of Mine is chai tea, which I know we'ved talked about a bit before. Chai tea is usually black tea mixed with herbs and spices. This tea nails that right on the head.

The bag of goodness.

Magical brewing vault. Turns hot water into magic water, then into tea. I drank that tea, sometimes all of it. I often find myself chewing on the mug, wishing for more.

Its hard to describe, but it smells like my nose popped off and walked into an Indian spice shop. The licorice root is a very dominating scent, but at the same time, its being layered with hints of cinnamon, glove, and ginger. There is even a very small trace of black pepper that tickles your nose. It smells great.

At first when you sip, it takes a moment, it lingers, waits. It tastes almost like nothing, but then, it happens. Suddenly your mouth is filled with a very deep, rich, mixture of roasted spices. The licorice rot makes it self known first, the clove, cardamon and nutmeg slowly come into focus. Its almost like a tea that changes flavors as you drink it. This isn't tea anymore, this is wizard magic.

Now, I can say that this tea isn't for everyone. This tea is for the office worker having a bad day, the late night gamer needing a break, the younger mother needing a piece of mind. There is a lot of depth here, which is extremely surprising for a tea bag. I like said though, not all tea bags are created equal.

365 Days of Tea - Day 31: Tea At Sea's Mountain Organic Indonesian Green Tea.

It seems like Good Earth Tea has been having issues trying to send me tea, but today they were fixed and I should get my tea by Friday. So that's cool.

Tea At Sea's Mountain Organic Indonesian Green Tea, looks like green tea. You can tell its whole leaf, too because it also contains the stems. This is usually a good sign, and often means fuller-bodied and better flavor. Tea At Sea's teas are usually slightly different in flavor profile because they are grown at higher altitudes. Believe it or not, they usually taste more earthy, and sometimes slightly salty.

Green tea doesn't require a long time to steep, and it doesn't carry a lot of magical wizard color-changing either. Thats okay though, because green tea is generally pretty awesome. What I like about this tea though; its organic, and its just tea leaves. No fruit, sugar, or junk added.

It doesn't smell like much, which is actually a good thing. It tells me what I already knew; it isn't loaded with junk. It's pure, tea. It carries a very faint leaf aroma, with a slight hint of earthiness. Its what I expect a green tea to smell like.

Tea At Sea can really surprise me sometimes, this isn't a typical green tea at all. It carries very different, and vastly complex flavor. Its almost like it was partial made from seaweed. Sounds a bit strange in text, but its quite fantastic. Its kind of like sipping a airy breeze from the ocean, with hints of roasted leaves, and earthiness tones. You can almost taste new depth each sip.

This is some really good stuff. If you like green tea, but want a bit more depth, this is for you then. Tea At Sea really produces some great products, and it shows in this tea. They don't carry a lot on their website, and that's perfectly okay because what they do carry is good enough to stand on it's own. They don't have any flashy gimmicks, just pure good tea.

365 Days of Tea - Day 19: Organic Whole Plant Blue Berry tea.

So I reached out to a local blue berry farm, Highland Organics because I noticed on there website they carry "Blue berry tea" and I found that to be quite interesting since it was made from real blue berries instead of artificial flavoring.

The Package. (Yes my address is actually just a black square. Makes shipping things easier)

The literature, which is very well printed and informative. I'll probably keep it forever.

The actual tea. This is also the nicest tea sample packaging I've gotten so far. Its very solid, and reusable. Reusability is the HUGE thing, ALL companies should use reusable containers to avoid waste. If I had a big ol' BEST CONTAINER AWARD, I'd put it here.

This tea is really pretty. Its made up of whole dried blue berries and stems and leaves. Its very blue-ish purple. Its flakey and powdery, so it got all over my desk and the world. What's really interesting though, is that because of the way this tea is processed, it actually contains nearly double the antioxidants than blue berries. Keep in mind that blue berries have second highest count of antioxidants, ever. So this tea is basically super tea. Its extremely good for you.

Its a deep purple color, which is to be expected since its made from blue berries. Please ignore my desk, its full of tea, dust, and tea dust.

Smell - The smell is very subtle, but its there. It carries a very faint blue berry scent with a slight leafy overtone. There isn't much else to say about it's smell. Its good.

Taste - The taste is unremarkable. Its extremely refined, but delicate. Very smooth, I could drink it all day. It carries a pleasant blue berry favor, but it isn't sweet. It tastes very raw, and unprocessed. Highland organics really lets the blueberries speak for themselves, and they speak volumes. Although, the favor itself is as strong as something like a black tea, it still carries very well. It is not bitter in anyway and the leaves and stems carry a very faint earth-y-ness to the table.

Overall - This is really what local farms are all about. Their quality is untouchable. Their attention to details, not only because its their livelihood, but because they actually love and care about what they do. To them these blue berries are life, to me, they are heaven. We talked about possibly taking a tour in the fall of their farm, and I will definitely blog about that. I would also really love to taste their Organic Blueberry Barque.

(5 out of 5 gold tea leaves, which is something I'd only give if I felt it deserved more than 5.)

p.s. this makes amazing ice tea, but I didn't review that here.
